eBay Confirms Receipt of Unsolicited Acquisition Proposal from GameStop

eBay Inc. has confirmed that it has received an unsolicited, non‑binding acquisition proposal from GameStop, marking an unexpected development involving two of the most recognisable names in online retail and gaming commerce.

The company said it had no prior discussions or outreach with GameStop before receiving the proposal.

In a statement, eBay said its Board of Directors — working with financial and legal advisors — will now review and evaluate the offer to determine what course of action would best serve the company and its shareholders. The company emphasised that shareholders do not need to take any action at this time.

Board to Assess Value and Viability of GameStop’s Proposal

eBay noted that its review will focus on the value GameStop is proposing to deliver, including the stock component of the offer and GameStop’s ability to put forward a binding, actionable bid.

The company highlighted its scale and ongoing strategic progress, pointing to its 135 million buyers across 190 markets and its continued investment in innovation and marketplace growth. eBay said its current strategy is delivering results, citing strong full‑year 2025 performance and its recently reported first‑quarter 2026 earnings.

“eBay continues to deliver value for the millions of buyers and sellers on its platform,” the company said, adding that it does not intend to comment further until the Board completes its review.
