Apple has introduced a series of updated activity features and fitness content for Apple Watch and Apple Fitness+ designed to help users stay motivated with their wellbeing goals throughout the new year.
The latest enhancements combine performance tracking, structured workout plans and third-party challenges to support users in building healthier movement routines. These tools leverage Apple Watch’s sensors and integration with fitness platforms to deliver personalised incentives and engagement.
New Activity Goals and Collaborative Challenges
To encourage daily movement, Apple is offering a limited-edition activity award that users can earn in January by closing all three Activity rings — Move, Exercise and Stand — seven days in a row.
Apple has also partnered with the fitness tracking platform Strava to launch a “Quit Quitting” challenge this month. Users who complete the required number of workouts can unlock a badge in the Strava app, reinforcing fitness habits through gamification and social proof.
Structured Workout Plans in Apple Fitness+
Apple Fitness+ is rolling out several multi-week programmes aimed at different fitness levels. These include plans focused on strength training, yoga, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and beginner strength fundamentals. The sessions range from brief ten-minute workouts to more comprehensive classes, enabling users to tailor their routine to personal schedules and goals.
Each programme is designed to build progressively, helping users increase consistency and performance across weeks rather than relying on one-off bursts of activity.
Audio and Music-Led Fitness Motivation
In addition to workout classes, Apple Fitness+ is refreshing its audio-led wellbeing content. New episodes of the walking audio series provide storytelling and motivational guidance for users on the move, while updated music-based workouts introduce curated tracks and artist-themed sessions to enhance engagement.
Supporting Behavioural Change
Apple notes that insights from its health research suggest people who adopt regular movement early in the year are more likely to sustain these behaviours. By combining intuitive tracking, community challenges and engaging content, Apple Watch and Fitness+ aim to help users maintain momentum beyond the typical “January slump” in wellbeing motivation.
These updates highlight the growing role of connected technology in supporting physical activity and habit formation for users seeking long-term wellbeing improvements.
